r

Born in Wickham, Western Australia, Oxtoby began playing as an eight year old in the Pilbara town of Wickham, initially playing in a team coached by her father. Between 1995 and 1999 she attended the Soccer Excellence Program at John Curtin College of the Arts. In 1999 Oxtoby was selected for the Australian Under–19 Schoolgirls team. After relocating on a number of occasions to pursue her football dream due to Perth not having a presence in the then Women’s National Soccer League, Oxtoby finally returned home to captain the Western Waves in 2005.

Her role within the Indigenous sporting community as a role model continued to grow due to her proud Aboriginal heritage and in 2008 she became the first Indigenous Captain in nearly formed W-League. During this time Oxtoby completed her a double major in Psychology at the university of Western Australia, and has worked in indigenous mental health with numerous government organizations in her field.

During her time as a player, Tanya continued to develop her coaching knowledge and qualifications with a number of elite development coaching roles within governing bodies working with the next generation of players. Whilst coming to the end of her playing career in Australia, Tanya was Manger of Women’s Football in Western Australia for Football West, the federation partner for the National Governing Body, overseeing all strategic and technical aspects of the Women’s game for all age groups.

Whilst continuing her playing career in England in the Women’s Super league, Tanya became the Manager of Nottingham Forest Ladies, before being recruited by Women’s Super League side Notts County Ladies to become Director of Development. Upon her return to Australia, Tanya became the assistant coach at Perth Glory Women, where they won the premiers plate for that season. Tanya has had extensive experience with National Women’s Youth teams as an assistant and video analyst.

Tanya is a UEFA A licence coach who also has a psychology degree, and was Head of Women’s Football and Futsal at the University of Nottingham, as well as an assistant manager at Birmingham City Women in the WSL in 2018. Tanya then made the move to her current role as Manager at Bristol City Women in the WSL, taking them to their highest ever points tally in her first season in charge.
